On 2nd April, 1917, 91 Brigade of 7th Division launched an attack on Longatte Ecoust and Croisilles, near Arras which would prepare the ground there for the major offensive that would commence a week later. At 5.15am The 2nd Queens and 21st Manchester battalions moved forward and captured the Factory Road at Croisilles and then went on to establish a forward line of posts there from which further advances could be made. At this stage the 22nd Manchester battalion moved up and after another artillery barrage, captured the village of Croisilles. One of their casualties on this day was Ferdinand Green.
